Dynamic Backlight Scaling Optimization: A Cloud-Based
演講公告
張貼人: ╱ 公告日期:2011-11-30Abstract:
Advances in wireless communications have increased the popularity of
mobile devices and motivated the development of a large variety of
mobile applications and services. However, reducing the energy
consumption of mobile devices is a major challenge in sustaining the
applications. To address the challenge, we raise the concept of
cloud-based energy-saving services. The services enable the service
provider to help mobile devices save energy when they access Internet
applications. In this talk, I will present the dynamic backlight
scaling service, a prototype service deployed on CHT hicloud to
minimize the energy consumption of the screen backlight when browsing
mobile streaming applications. I will also briefly introduce a number
of on-going research projects for the development of cloud-based
energy saving services and give few demos conducted on HTC Android
smartphones and Apple iPad tablets.
Bio:
Dr. Pi-Cheng Hsiu received the BS degree in CIS from NCTU in 2002 and
the MS and PhD degrees in CSIE from NTU in 2004 and 2009,
respectively. He is currently an assistant research fellow in CITI,
where leads the Embedded and Mobile Computing Lab, and also a joint
assistant research fellow in IIS, Academia Sinica. He was a visiting
scholar in the Dept. of CS at UIUC in 2007. His research interests
include networked embedded systems, real-time systems, and wireless
mobile networks.
