Abstract:
Mobile computing has led to paradigm shifts in user behavior, application semantics, and device features. However, existing software solutions that borrow legacy designs directly from conventional operating systems are not suitable for next-generation mobile devices. We advocate that mobile systems should move towards user-centric designs and consider human factors. In this talk, I will give our whole landscape and present several user-centric designs developed to reduce the energy required by mobile devices for display, communication, and computation. I will also demonstrate our prototype implementations on Android smartphones and tablets to validate the efficacy of the designs.
